Dekret über die Anerkennung der Leukophyrenia

Nikanor aus dem Demos Phaleron und seineMitvorsitzenden; Agathokles S.d. Diophanes aus dem Demos Dekelea stellte den Antrag: Da dieMagneten am Maiandros, Partner und Freunde des Volkes der Athener,beschlossen haben, ein Opfer zu geben und musische und hippische und sportlicheSpiele um Kränze, im Wert den pythischen gleich,für die Schutzherrin ihrer Stadt, Artemis Leukophryene,und entsandt haben als Festgesandte: Apollophanes S.d. Aischylos, EuboulosS.d. Anaxagoras, Lykomedes S.d. Charisios, die vor den Rat und dieVolksversammlung traten und die zwischen den Städten bestehendePartnerschaft und Freundschaft erneuerten und die Epiphanieder Göttin schilderten und mit allem Eifer und Ehrgeizersuchten, die Spiele um Kränze im Wert der pythischenanzuerkennen, die sie der Artemis Leukophyreneausrichten, und ihre Stadt und das Land alsheilig und unverletzlich anzuerkennen, so wie ihnen auch der Gott in Delphidas Orakel gegeben hat; – Damit nun auch das Volk in öffentlicher Weise zu jeder Zeitdas Göttliche ehrt und die Partnerschaft und Freundschaftmit den Magneten bewahrt, zu Glück und Heil!, wolle beschließender Rat: dass die Vorsitzenden, die erlost sein werden für die kommendeVolksversammlung, hierüber verhandeln lassen und die Beschlussvorlagedes Rates in die Volksversammlung einbringen, wonach der Rat es für gut befindet,dass das Volk akzeptiere für jetzt und für die Zukunftden Festfrieden und die Opfer und die Spiele, die dieMagneten der Artemis Leukophryene als Kranz–Spiele im Wert der pythischenausrichten, und dass ihre Stadt und das Land heiligund unverletzlich sein sollen gemäß den Orakels des Gottes; dass manauch belobige das Volk der Magneten und bekränzemit einem Lorbeerkranz wegen seiner Frömmigkeit; dass man belobige auchdie erschienenen Festgestandten Apollophanes, Eubou-los (und) Lykomedes und bekränze einen jeden von ihnen miteinem Lorbeerkranz wegen ihrer Frömmigkeit gegenüber der Göttin undihres Ehrgeizes für das Vaterland; dass man sie auch zumBankett in das Prytaneion für morgen lade; dass diesenBeschluss der Sekretär, der während der Prytanie amtiert, aufzeichneauf eine steinerne Stele und aufstelle in dem Tempel; dass die entstandenenKosten für die Anfertigung der Stele und die Weihungder Schatzmeister und die Finanzverwalter begleichen.

Agathokles son of Diophanes of Dekeleia proposed: since the Magnesianson the Maeander, being familiars and friends of the AthenianPeople, having voted to fund a sacrifice and a competition for the prize of a crown,equal to the Pythian, musical and equestrian and gymnastic,for the patron deity of their city, Artemis Leukophryene,have despatched official visitors, Apollophanes son of Aischylos, Euboulosson of Anaxagoras, Lykomedes son of Charisios, who, having come beforethe Council and the People, have renewed their pre-existingconnections and friendship with the cities, and having recountedthe epiphany of the goddess, have urged withall zeal and love of honour that the competitionfor a crown, equal to the Pythian, which they have established for ArtemisLykophryene, be accepted, and to declare their city and territorysacred and inviolable, as the god in Delphihas instructed; in order therefore that the People may be seen at everyopportunity to be honouring the divine and fostering connections and friendship with theMagnesians, for good fortune, the Councilshall decide, that the presiding committee allotted for the forthcomingAssembly shall put these matters on the agenda, and submitthe opinion of the Council to the People, that it seems good to the Council,that the People should accept both now and in time hereafterthe truce and the sacrifices and the competition whichthe Magnesians have established for Artemis Lykophryene, for the prize of a crown, equal to the Pythian,and that their city and territory shall be sacredand inviolable according to the oracles of the god; and to praisethe Magnesian People and crown itwith a foliage crown for its piety, and to praise alsothe official visitors who are present, Apollophanes, Euboulos,Lykomedes, and crown each of them with a foliagecrown for their piety towards the goddess andtheir love of honour towards their fatherland, and to invite them alsoto hospitality in the city hall tomorrow; and the prytanysecretary shall inscribe this decreeon a stone stele and stand it in the sanctuary; and the treasurerand the board of administrators shall allocatethe expenditure arising for the making and setting up the stele.
